Earl grey has become a popular flavor to add in desserts and drinks. It wasn’t until recent years that I learned Earl Grey is just black tea flavored with the oil of bergamot! I have seen so many people making Earl Grey Hot Chocolate on social media and I understand why after taking my first sip.
The earl grey tea adds delicate floral notes and a nice depth of flavor to plain old hot chocolate. Using real chocolate instead of a powder mix makes a huge difference in quality and taste. Then, it’s topped off with a fluffy cloud of cream whipped to soft peaks.
I don’t think I will ever be satisfied with regular hot chocolate again; I much prefer this elevated version. It is just magical to enjoy by the fireplace on a cold winter night, complete with a light snowfall outside. This would also be great in a thermos to take on the go with your family and drive through the neighborhood enjoying the holiday lights!
